GROUP EXERCISE INSTRUCTOR

Be rewarded every time you lead group exercise and get a guaranteed workout at the same time

A Group Exercise Instructor typically delivers group exercise sessions:

  • That may be freestyle, pre-choreographed or circuit style
  • Intended for a group of clients with a combination of ages and fitness levels that are generally not tailored to specific individuals
  • That are part of a regular timetable depending on the particular fitness environment/setting provided by the employer organisation

Requirements:

  • Minimum Certificate III in Fitness qualification
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certification and Working with Children Check (Blue Card)

GYM INSTRUCTOR

Work and play in the gym. Look after clients and manage your own work.

A Gym Instructor typically can:

  • Provide clients with individually tailored assessments, exercise programs with program demonstration and client reviews
  • Observe clients and their use of facilities and equipment
  • Provide technique correction, keeping equipment clean, tidy, well-maintained, being available for customer inquiries or assisting clients with day-to-day functions
  • Use their time effectively to supervise a facility or fitness service/activity
  • Report to a manager if working within a fitness facility but also has the skill set to work autonomously during work duties

Requirements:

  • Minimum Certificate III in Fitness qualification
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certification and Working with Children Check (Blue Card)

PERSONAL TRAINER

A Personal Trainer can typically:

  • Perform all skills collaborated from both the Group Exercise Instructor and Gym Instructor requirements
  • Support or lead other registered exercise professionals
  • Provide clients with individually tailored client assessments, program development, exercise sessions and client reviews
  • Monitor their clients progress and offer consistent support during an exercise session as well as between sessions
  • Work independently (may be self-employed or an employee)
  • Manage both business and client needs autonomously without any supervision
  • Operate and manage the promotion of their own services by not only selling services but having the ability to deliver them effectively and efficiently as well
  • Work within a wide spectrum of fitness environments as settings – e.g. fitness facility, outdoor locations, client homes, community spaces, parks and other workplaces.

Requirements:

  • Minimum Certificate III and IV in Fitness qualification
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certification and Working with Children Check (Blue Card)
